    Hi all,

I recently upgrade to a 2002 A4 3.0 Quattro, complete with Symphony II stereo. I had got sick of the static from my FM transmitter iPod adapater, so splashed out on the Audi iPod interface kit.

Nice and easy to fit, and my 3G iPhone plays beautifully through it - I was already aware of the limitations of controlling the iPhone from the stereo, so that was fine.

However, it was a real bother when I discovered that the adapter won't charge the later generation iPods and iPhones - seems Apple have changed the pin outs of the connector for the newer generation, and you can no longer charge through the 12v Firewire pins - you need to use the 5v USB pins instead! Apparently VAG is aware of the issue, but have no plans at this stage to release the updated cable. Much knashing of teeth ensued!

I started down the road of making my own cable by canabilising the one that I had, but tracking the right pin outs down was proving impossible. Then, as the desperate result of a very oblique Google search, I stumbled across this little device:

    http://scosche.com/products/sfID1/21...productID/1667

A lovely little adapter that goes between the end of the Audi cable and the Apple device. From the sound of it, it even gets rid of the annoying 'accessory not designed for this device' message!

Retails for around USD25, and they seem to have dealers in most countries, even here in little old New Zealand!

So, needless to say, mine is on order - Dealer has a shipment arriving in a couple of weeks. I could have ordered one from eBay US (there is a few dealers on there who will ship internationally) and got it quicker, but freight was more than the product!

So, if you, like me, have a newer Apple device, an Audi adapter, and want to charge the jolly thing while listening to your music - this could be the answer!!

I had the same problem having had the kit fitted to mt A3 Sportback by my local dealer having received a 4th gen Nano for my birthday. I tracked down the Scosche adaptor at the nearby Apple Shop having got the dealer to agree to a credit of 50% of the cost of the audi kit for the inconvenience of having an Ipod that didn't charge!

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

    Hi

I have a Harman Kardon iPod kit and an iPod Nano which says "accessory not supported...blah blah" so i resort to plugging my iPod into my laptop USB every night. So how does this device work? Is it just an in-line device that alters the pin config? Does it need to be connected to power, eg cigarette lighter?
    It certainly looks promising

    Steve

    Hi Steve,

It's just an inline device that converts the current from 12v to 5v, as Apple have changed the charge spec to 5v in the latest range of iPods (5g nano, iTouch 3G and iPhone 3GS)

Does the iTouch 3G work with the Audi ipod connector then? (and will charge if you buy one of these cables?)
