An ATD engine can use 038 130 073 J or AJ which is VAG exchange part number 038 130 079 CX (£461 each) and these both convert to Bosch exchange remanufactured part 0 986 441 506.

    What is the problem?

thanks a lot for that .....

problem was that the car was misfiring and the mechanic said it was the 3rd fuel injector and wants over £200 to replace it, i've called around and found it a lot cheaper at a local VW dismantler.... - only £65

    Thanks

It is unlikely to be the injector, more likely to be the wiring harness in the head. Did you get a fault code report? Did it say electrical malfunction on that injector? If so, replace the harness. I did one on an ATD 100PS today, my local VAG TPS (Trade Parts Supplies for VAG UK) sells around four PD head harnesses a day. They take an hour and a half to fit and cost £45. Be extremely careful buying a used injector and £200 for a new (well recon exchange) injector is too cheap also. A used injector MUST have a seal kit fitted (part number 038 198 051 C costing £18) and this must be fitted using the special VW sleeves or the seals can become damaged. If a seal kit is not fitted, the injector may leak diesel into the oil system. If an injector is removed, the bolt (038 103 385 A, £2) MUST be replaced and correctly torqued to its proper specification or it WILL come lose and destroy the cylinder head, I have seen this too many times recently. The injector alignment is also critical to a specification of 0.8-mm and again if this is neglected, the injector can come loose. Also, the injector rocker arm basic setting should be performed on the injector and as the rocker arms for cylinders three and four will have to be removed, four new bolts must be used, (038 103 714 A @ £5 EACH!).
