HI, i have a mk2 16v. I have recently had a 2.0l 6a bottom end fitted. The problem i am experiencing is that when you start it up you need to give it a some gas. Sometimes its starts first time when i give it some gas and others takes a bit more time before it fires up.

I have also noticed that when i drive the car for say over 8 miles so the engine is up to temperature, and i stop and turn the engine off, then try to start it up straight away its very difficult, and its like all the power has been drained, but if i leave it for some time then its ok.

Do you have any idea whats going on here? cheers

It sounds as though it has not been set up correctly.

The locking up sensation is something that always happens with 9A bottom ends in a KR install when hot and can be very embarrassing if you stall it in traffic. You need to have a more powerful starter fitted as the original 0.9Kw item is not enough, you need a 1.1Kw starter. What I do is get a second hand Golf 3 TD starter and swap over the solenoid on top as the starter on the 16v has an output for the cold start valve that the TD starter lacks.

As a matter of interest, check your starter has a black wire connected to the terminal directly behind the radiator and in front of the tick cable from the battery.
