Hello again all, i have a 1997 A4 1.9 tdi SE With a tempremental Heater/ Climate control- All or the buttons and digital display work but there seems to be no response from the blower, occasionally it does come on but more often than not i'm left freezing and clearing the condensation by hand. heat can be felt coming from the vents when driving at speed but i'm sure that this is just getting blown through the matrix from the outside, If anyone has any ideas i'm eager to hear as it's getting damn cold out there!! Cheers, Jack

Usually this is the blower motor brushes, give the heater unit under the back of the glovebox a little thump with you hand (take care not to hurt your hand) and if the blower springs into life, you need to replace it. Others on here will tell you to prat around buying brushes off fleaBay and fit them yourself, I would recommend fitting a new blower motor as it is much quicker, depends on how much time you have and how practical you are.

The hard part is getting the motor out. Once you've got the motor out, fitting the brushes takes 2 minutes

I have a 1995 A4 that permanently has hot air even when switched right down to zero and cold setting. Took it to Kwik Fit where they regassed it but the problem was still there so the regas was free as per their aircon promise. They think it is a heater matrix problem but I don't want to pay the diagnostic fee on top of the parts and labour. Does anyone know how I can test if it is the matrix (looks like it is stuck on hot setting) and is there a simple fix?? Or could it be the aircon compressor, any ideas or clues would be appreciated.

You have a flap control problem, it needs a scan.

It makes me wonder about Kwik Fit that they would even bother trying that, complete ignorance as to the way the system works.

Thanks, does that mean it MUST go to Audi for the scan or can it be done at an independant. Also if you already know it is the flaps does it really need money spent on a scan? Which exact part would be faulty so I can buy it, would it be the heater matrix?

It can be scanned by anyone with a suitable system. There are four flap motors but it is probably the temperature regulating flap motor that is at fault. Even tough I assume this is at fault, it should be computer diagnosed first to confirm and then must be set up on the computer after installation.

The heater matrix is constant flow, the only way they fail is to block and stop heat or leak coolant into the cabin.

Thanks Crasher. I shall get it into an independant for a scan and let you know how it goes. Looks like it's definitely not the matrix then (as Kwikfit suggested) I am glad this site is here with people who actually know what they are talking about, I would have bought a matrix that didn't need changing and probably still had the original problem to solve.
