    Hi guys.

Just a quicky, I have heard people talking about removing their egr valves, inlet/exhaust manifold to clean them.

At what sort of mileage is this recommended?

Whats the job like to do/whats involved?

You help would be greatly appreciated!

    Cheers

    Neil

There is loads of threads about this if you do a search, its not easiest of jobs but then again not too bad depending what your like, doesnt really go on mileage etc best thing to do is take cooler hose off the goes to top of engine and open the butterfly valve whats inside and with a torch you should be able to see how caked up it is cos if its bad in there the manifold will also be bad,you can take them off to be honest allard motorsport do a kit for about £80 or clean it out and then on vag com you can turn down the egr valve
I dont work here for the pay,or the enjoyment,so why do i work here

I had mine cleaned out. I never noticed any difference to be honest, but I felt better knowing everything was clean in there!

Having it cleaned out for you is far preferable to the vile job of actually doing it. Scooping out 1-cm thick walls of thick, black goo layered over with powdery gunge with a consistency something akin to thick toffee is unpleasant. Everything gets covered in it including you. How I managed to bring it home on the base of my sandwich box which transferred to a dot on my silver grey fabric seat centre section of my passengers seat (which I attempted to brush off thinking it was a fleck of lint, the smear taking an hour to clean off) which then got onto my living room floor and then the kitchen work top I will never know!

    Always afterwards

I do not agree with deleting the EGR, it reduces smog causing NOX and as an asthma sufferer…
