Ouch! 36mpg is pretty naff. I consistantly get 60mpg + from mainly motorway driving. If I'm in a rush, say driving 80-90mph I can expect this to drop to 50mpg or so, but that's with hard acceleration. There could be plenty of reasons for your problem, possibly as simple as a faulty sensor, but I think most would agree that it'd be most cost effective for you to get fault codes read rather than buying new parts in the hope that you fix it. You can read the codes yourself with a shareware copy of VAG-COM and a cable from eshrules (a forum member) for 10-15 squids. Visit the VAG-COM section for plenty of information. Let us know how you get on.

I have a mapped 150 n that only averages 35's because run to work is only about 15mins there each way and some of that is traffic but if go a decent run non motorway its 45/50's but always uses more this time of year
I dont work here for the pay,or the enjoyment,so why do i work here

Ive got a gt tdi 130 and travel 30 miles to work and 30 miles back 5 times a week and on a daily run through about 10 mins of town and 20 mins of motorway driving my fuel averages between 47 - 53mpg. but had dropped recently to around 45 - 49 as the alloys ive put on are heavier then the standard 15's.

What sort of sensor could it be? I've had the car serviced recently, tyres changed, engine temp sensor and coolant tank/sensor changed too.

My mpg has dropped from 45-50mpg to approx 30-35mpg.

Also when I first used to start the car and drive, I rarely used to get under 25mpg, but now, anything over 20mpg is amazing!
