i currently have a 2001 passat s and i am looking to buy a vw mfd version d or g. the current set up on my dash is the climatronic unit at the top, stereo in the middle and storage space for cd's etc at the bottom. is it a relatively easy job to relocate the climatronic unit to the bottom to make way for the double din unit above, i am aware i would have to change the surrounding fascia plate but is there anything else i need to know??

    kind regards

There is quite a lot of dismantling involved and you will need a clima fascia / cage off a B5.5 Passat where the clima lives on the bottom.

As Big Col said and the inside cage needs butchering for the double din cage to fit and you have to live with it as its ireversible ! You will need also a double din spec climatronic surround as its smaller and different than the single din one. Been there done that...If you have a dremmel, it will come in very handy.

Hi, the parts you need can be bought from a VW dealer or off Ebay (Germany),The job is quite involved but also quite easy. You just have to be carefull with the dremel and ease off only what you dont need.
If you send me a PM with an emails address I can send you staged pics of when I did mine. There is two parts you must not cut as they will be required to fix the new bits to.
To help you. see these posts:-

The German supplier was easy to deal with and it was genuine VW parts
just be sure to specify what finish you require, Carbon effect, wood ect.

I also have an MFD "G" with genuine disk, satnav arial, and the plug and play lead in very good condition and fully working if you are interested.
    Regards Richard.

Hi Richard! I have a 2002 passat with single din and I'm looking to buy a 7" in-dash double din headunit. If i bought this double din cage with all the surrounds, do you think I would be able to fit in any aftermarket double din unit? Also, could you send me the pictures when you did yours, please? I think they would come in handy. My e-mail address is zsagi1@hotmail.com
Your reply or any suggestion would be very much appreciated.
    Regards
