Servicing

I have a MKIV 110 Golf with 98k on the clock. It has been very reilable since I bought it a year and a half ago.

It had a new cambelt (but not the water pump) about 10k miles ago along with what a believe to be a service.

The service light came back on again the other week and I was wondering what kind of service is to be expected.

Is it just oil and filters i.e something that I can do or does it really have to go to a garage to be serviced?

Is there anything that would need looking at now the car is quite high mileage? It doesn't smoke and I get about 50mpg - is this reasonable?

you may find that they just did not reset the service indicator. have a look when it was last serviced by the peopl that had it before you so you can see if it was around a year ago or 10000 miles.
