i was trying to clean maf sensor today on my 02 passat tdi sport. When i removed maf sensor, i spotted oil in pipe which connects to maf and turbo. Is it normal, shall get worried about it? What problem it might be?

i bought today new maf sensor, fitted it, car started running much better. I cant see neck breaking experience yet, but can see engine runs much smoother, but still not 100% when accelerating. Power kicks after 1900 rpm.
Still worried about oil in pipe which comes from maf to turbo, i showed my car to couple mechanics, and they told me its normal.
I am kinder getting fed up with car, really don't want to see her selling, but looks like i am not having other choose.
Does anyone seen oil in this pipe ( i don't know how you call it right-maybe air breather pipe), so if oil not supposed to be there, what is problem then?

you always get a bit of engine oil in the inlet pipe on any diesel engine. pressure is vented from the engine into the air box, and this air contains oil. the older the car the more oil. so it is normal and not a problem. the only way to prevent it is to use an oil catch tank on the breather pipe, which collects the oil so only air goes through. you then periodically empty the tank. it is also worth taking your intercooler off and cleaning this out, along with all the turbo pipes, as oil will be in these too. hope this helps to reassure you.

oh yes, as its between the air box and the intercooler. its the oil that gums them up and stops them working properly.

Oil in the charge pipes is completely normal and nothing to worry about, even quite a lot is perfectly normal. Some comes from the turbo but most is from the engine breather and they do it from new. VAG even brought out some thicker “O” rings to stop it showing so people didn’t fret about it. The oil can’t get into the AMM (MAF).

thanks guys, you really made me happy. I dont know why i just got fear my turbo wil give up. So if it is normal, i will not worry much.
I discovered little oil leak on other side of engine ( left side.) i think intercooler pipe, near coolant tank same tickness as the one comes from maf. Its bleading litle oil out from place where it connects to other pipe. Can it cause little power loss?
    Thanks again

No it won’t cause a power loss. That is why VAG introduced the thicker “O” ring, to stop people worrying.

My car runs much better now, i think reason is new maf sensor and i don't know if its cause, i did rev engine up to 5000 rpm couple times, and i think all crap was blown out. After fitting maf i did not see much difference, but car was running quite smoother. After revving engine, i could see a lot difference, all strange noises gone, car respond more on acceleration.
    Is it possible?
My driving is mostly in town traffic, stop start, short journeys. If for example, i will rev engine to blow all crap out like once a week, will it cause any harm to engine?
I will use Miller's diesel treatment from next fill up?
