I bought a VW Bora (Highline 130) from a main dealer last Thursday evening and am extremely pleased with it.

The only problem I have is that upon picking up the car, the experian report showed outstanding finance. Sales guy said it was out of date and inaccurate and that all finance was cleared. Would send through an updated report the next day. A week on and I'm still chasing and waiting. I get a different excuse each time.

A favourite excuse seems to be "that it is VW's way of financing and that they don't clear it until delivery - there's nothing to worry about".

My issue is that technically, if there is finance on the car, then should VW go under (which you cannot tell me won't happen in the current climate...) someone could come after me to try and enforce the finance?

I hope that there is nothing to worry about, but I don't like being fobbed off by the dealer and lied to. If they had a genuine explanation for it then why wouldn't they just say??

First post on here, hope someone can help!

Get it checked and cleared! If the car is showing on finance then you are resposible as your the owner. Any dealer finance (what the dealers use to by the stock) shouldn't be shown against the car.

The fact they are fobbing you off and not providing the updated report sets off alarm bells!

If they still won't play ball then do your own HPi check and then try and claim the money back from the dealer for the report. However if you took the car on finance then obviously it would show your finance against the car.

Thanks for that, exactly what I thought and why I was concerned.

Even more cause for concern was that I was due to buy a bora from Richard Alexander VW in Harrogate 2 weeks ago but they couldn't sell it to me due to 'insolvency' proceedings of some sort! It would get pretty tricky if they went bust before sorting out any dealer financing etc.

I have actually gone ahead and got an RAC report (£9.99 - pretty good value) and it shows that it is clear of finance so I can relax.

Begs the question, why did the garage (Halifax VW) not just send me proof to shut me up rather than making up a load of cr@p and winding me up?!? Also, I have just wasted £10 on something that should have been provided. I would claim it back, however trying to keep the garage a bit sweet as car booked in to have a couple of niggles sorted under warranty!

Incredible how they forget customer service as soon as the sale is complete - very short sighted in this market.

    Thanks for the response anyway.

    Regards

    Moreski.
