Sharan Windscreen Wipers; since new my wind screeen wipers have never really worked well, they are aways a bit slow. This got worse and eventually I replaced the mechanism as it ceased up. NB. it is possible to take the three main bearing out and grease them but mine were so badly corroed that I decided to replace the whole mechanism, this is not a cheap option. The replacement is relatively easy but fiddly. I would like to know from anyone if they still have slow wipers but also replaced the wiper motor itself and did it improve the speed, this again is not cheap at £270 retail.
    Regards Stevie.

PS I did discover that it is much easier to replace the cabin filter by partially removing the winscreen wiper mechanism.

My old 1999 Alhambra's were done at 90,000 miles (under warranty) first the linkages and then motor when the wipers were still slow.

It's due to the extra load of the corroded bearings burning the motor windings out, you'll notice a big difference after replacing the motor - as long as you keep those bearings oiled.

I found a quick squirt with WD40 every few months kept them happy after that.

My old Sharan had this problem. I had to replace the mechanism and then the motor as it got worn out trying to move seized bearings! I found that Euro Car Parts do the same wiper motor as VW but at far less money! Like less than half price! Its a common problem hence why my local ******* always keeps the mechanism in stock!

Hi, I had to get the linkage replaced a couple of years back, I am keen to avoid another problem and did not know that it is necessary to lubricate the bearings.

Can you please tell me exactly what you have to lubricate and how you do it, does anything need dismantling to get to the bearings.
    thanks in advance

As per my orognal post, use WD40 with the long nozzle to squrt each wiper where the shaft emerges from the bearing. I didn't take anything apart, other than folding the wiper arm cover back.

Not an ideal solution but better than forking out again.
