I am in the middle of replacing both these items crankcase filter and EGR valve. I can't seem to get the filter off as its deep in the V. I have removed the fuel pipes, but there are 2 obstacles. The first is a thick solid pipe attached to the bottom of the valve and goes below the turbo and the second is a thinner pipe that seems to feed oil to the turbo.

Do I need to remove the turbo to get access to the filter and do I need to replace the turbo gaskets. Is there any thing I need to be aware of.

    Thanks.

You need to remove the turbocharger...If you have the later engine, then you should have the uprated breather type. The later ones dont clog. To fit the later breather, the oil feed pipe needs removing as well, its only held in place by a single bolt. You can remove the egr pipe to gain acces to the breather but, you will need some flexi head 12mm spanner and it will take really long ! You will also need a stubby 12mm spanner to remove the difficult to reach nut on the turbo....

Thanks again Adamss, I obviously have the later type. I didn't have to remove the turbo. I got both pipes off. What a pig! The filter looks just like the new one and the egr spring tension and movement feels like new. What a waste of time. Now to put the new parts back on.
