Cooling Fan & Transmission Problems

Hi, my Bora 2.0 sport manual has a couple of weird afflictions at the moment & I'd greatly appreciate any suggestions as to what the problems could be.

Intermittantly regardless of whether the engine is hot or cold the cooling fan will cut in spin up to full speed and then turn off, this process repeats and will usually at some point stop - I'm pretty sure that it's the additional AC fan that is running.

The second problem manifests itself in the form of a strange noise from the transmission area. If turning right from a stop and accelerating hard or spinning the wheels up on an icy surface for example a grinding/clicking sound occurs. The car has done this since I bought it some 30k miles ago and has never got any worse - I'm just baffled as to what it may be.

Hi, the cooling fan problem is probably the switch located towards the bottom of the radiator assembly just below the N/S headlamp - possibly dirty contacts.

Not able to help with the second problem, but I have had something similar on two or three occasions when the ABS light has come on, and maybe a day or two later there is a noise which sounds like a rusty gate spring, and lo and behold the light goes out. I suspect, due to the location, that it is the ABS switch re-activating itself?
