    of the forum.

Hello all, had VW a couple of times before, have purchased a VW Bora 2.0 SE (2001 model).

Just looking for info on the car, what to look out for, etc. Anyone who can help, the mods will buy a pint for.

    Cheers

Disasterous start to my VW ownership. On way to work this morning, the EMS light appears on the dash board and car breaks down! Car is now back at garage I got it from, the owner of said garage rang to say his mechanic deals with a lot of VW and reckons it could be the lambda sensor that has gone and caused the light to appear (the car was also, what i would say, misfiring when being driven, just didn't feel correct, engine almost made the sound of chugging). Anyway car has a 6 month full warranty (Premier Warranty) but I'm still not happy this has happened. Just have to wait till I get it back and see if its sorted. Not convinced its the lambda after reading what its roll is within the grand scheme of things. The way it was running reminds me of a Fiat Bravo I had when the engine went on it and it was not running on all cylinders.

Anyone had any experience of this happening with VW?

If they can't sort it, I want my Focus and my cash back.

I had a similar problem when I had my Octavia Rs, it sounds like it could be a coil pack gone? Hope you get it sorted soon

Ask - nay, demand a full read-out of all ECU modules for stored fault codes. If they can't/won't, tell them you'll take it to a VW garage, and be charging the cost to the supplying dealer. Tell them if there are any fault codes stored, you will be rejecting the car under the Sale of Goods Act.

Post the fault codes here, and we'll help you further.

    Best of luck, Rgds

This will be interesting, car is ready, faults were the lambda sensor and the coil pack. Both done free of charge. I'll give it a few days to see how it drives then if it goes again, car will go back and wedge and money back.

A good positive result then. Did you ask them for a copy of the fault codes?

well driven the car for about 20 miles and it seems fine, hell of a lot more perky is the Bora than it was 48 hours ago! Feels exactly like a VW should - SOLID. Still, if anyone can recommend a good independant VW garage in Newcastle upon Tyne or surrounding area that would be spot on.

Cold start tomorrow will be interesting time, see whatever work has been done settle down and see if the light remains off (they haven't just unplugged it as the EMS light comes on when ignition is switched on).

Asked for the report and they said they can get it and send it to me. That I'll take with a pinch of salt - I'm just happy to have the Bora on the road.
