    Hi,

I have a 2000 110 bhp TDI that emits a large amount of white/grey smoke under all driving conditions, hot and cold. (James Bond style)

The head was removed and reconditioned sometime ago and all has been well for last 4000 miles,

There is no water leaking and water is not getting pressurised and no oil in it, also the oil level does not change is not being burnt and there is no water in it,

The car has not lost any power and is smooth and pulls well,

I have removed and cleaned the intercooler but this only had a very small amount of oil in it, this made no difference,

I have blown out most of the vacumn hoses and they seem clear,

I have run VAG - COM but don't rely understand the data. All temperature semsors appear correct,

Any ideas what to do / try next,
    Thanks,
    Brian

my bora does it occasionally when it's been parked over night. I think it's just over fuels like a choke setting. Could be that your emissions are out.

Got a 1.9Tdi 90PS AGR engine - it puffs a little grey smoke every morning on start-up from cold then runs normally. Passed 2 MOT's like this, emissions fine, mpg good. I've stopped worrying about it.

It is not just a small amount of smoke when cold or left overnight but a large amount of continuous smoke under all conditions. (some worse than others).
    Thanks

Hi there, I have just had the same problem with my Golf GT TDI, after head re-build. The garage admitted to not changing the injector seals. It was ridiculous, big puffs of white smoke when cold and when idling in traffic. The seals cost me nothing to have them fitted, but I also had a faulty injector fitted which cost, 290.00 quid. Car purs like a cat now, with no smoke

Thanks for your reply re the injectors.
I have just checked the compressions and each was 25-26 Bar which is well within spec. Also checked the tandom pump pressure which was between 5 and 7 Bar which I believe is OK.
I will check the injector seals the weekend.

Hi Brian, just a bit more info, the garage I used for the re-build told me that they didn, t change the injector seals originally because the seals were all different colours. When they got the head kit the seals were all the same colour, so they were reluctant to change them. This time I insisted at no charge they changed them, which I think was more the cure than the new injector. The only difference I have noticed with new injector is that the rough idling has gone away, and a smoother sounding engine.

One thing he did mention was the injector seals were a B****** to get out, but after the re-build were quite easy.

    Hope this helps!

    Ore Yeah,

One more thing, there are a couple of seals the behind the tandem pump, which can also cause a smokey TDI.
