Just had this link emailed round the office as a health and safety message. Its not something I had ever thought of when buying tyres and I can't say I'm 100% convinced

Have a look and see what you think.............

The reasoning being is that most people can't handle oversteer, but are better dealing with understeer, i.e. just lifting off the throttle. Personally, I always put the new ones on the front, to counteract the aquaplaning in a straight line.
Nothing to see here, move along..

I dont think theres is anything wrong with the arguement especially when they say you can feel the road better through the part worn tyres on the front rather than on the back. At least you know the backs will hold better.

Every time I hear of this discussion involves Michelin. When I was at Costco, purchasing two new Michelin Energys for my Vectra (gone now) then insisted they were put on the back.

I'm pretty sure you all know what I did when I got home.

I had the same experience at Costco. TBH Costco are a PITA when it comes to who, why and where with tyres

Costco are great for tyre prices, but I agree with the PITA statement. When I bought my Audi coupe, the numpty before me had fitted 205/45/16 tyres, which looked way too small in the arches and didn't ride aswell, so I replaced them with 205/55/16s, which were the closest I could get to the original 205/60/15 size on the 16" rim (and the factory size fitted to an S2 coupe).

When the tyre fitter got to my car, he said "We can't fit these", because they're not the same as the ones coming off, and not the standard size for this car. After a bit of discusion with me about rolling circumferences, he fitted them after I'd signed to say that I'd specified the size. I did say that if I'd told him it was an S2, they'd be standard, but he said that we now know it isn't.

    Fortunately I'm not a member.

Why does it seem like they only sell Michelins anyway? Michelin tyres have a very flat sidewall, which is why the OH kerbs the wheels (I don't!) all the time when Michelins are fitted. I've put Bridgestones on the front and she doesn't kerb them as much.

i find it easier to control the back end than the front,or should i say i'm happier with the back end breaking away rather than the front.
have always been a bit sceptical of front wheel drive, being brought up to use the throttle
on corners rather than having to throttle off and almost coast, hoping it will come back,if you get into trouble.
i don't think i have described,or explained that very well, but in essence i have always felt
happier in a rear drive,or four wheel,of which i've had three.
but,(and their always is one) i love my bora 130,which has recently had two new tyres----
    on the front.
    regards,
    stewy.
first time i was up a ladder i was down a well

It's an American car (looks Chevyish I think), they don't do corners anyway.

My new tyres go on the front if I have a FWD car and the rear when I used to have a RWD car

Smacked yourself in the face with a frying pan for owning a Vectra?
