    Hi

I'm new here and firstly would like to day what a great forum this appears to be - lots of info and friendly people!

I currently have a Mk5 Golf GTI and I'm looking to get an A4 Avant (B7) S-Line 2.0T, as I love the flexibility of the GTI engine with the six speed box but basically need a bit more space in the boot. I'm looking around the £13-14k mark, so 05 or 55 plate probably.

I'm looking at both Quattro and non-Quattro models - can anyone comment on the following:

    - MPG - how much worse it is on the Quattro model (if you can post your overall MPG that would be great)

    - Boot space - is it smaller on the Quattro? I've read somewhere that it's 442 litres on both, just wanted to confirm.

    - Servicing costs - is it much more for the Quattro due to the 4wd system etc?

I like the idea of the Quattro model, just want to make sure it's not going to cost a fortune to run.

Oh, and if anyone is interested in an immaculate unmarked one owner 12,000 mile Golf GTI 5 door, in Steel Grey, let me know....!

    Thanks in advance

    Dave

I would expect the Quattro to do 5 or 6 mpg less than a fwd. Also have a look at the road fund licence as the emissions will be higher on the quattro and will put it into the next tax band when the government introduce the new tax bands (check aa website and auto trader for tax prices and bands) I was also in the same dillema as you but have decided the extra cost involved in running a quattro means i will be looking for a fwd. Although if you live where a quattro would be beneficial eg snow or muddy lanes then a quattro could be a better buy due to its more traction. Hope this is of help.

    Hi Dave

Depends on how you like to dirve, coming from a GTI i assume you like to give it some beans now and again ?

The golf has a cracking chassis and puts the power down well for a fwd car, with the avant you will not get the sharpness as in the golf and may feel you dont know what the back end is doing espicailly in front wheel drive version. At least with the Quattro version you can power out of corners and gives you more confidence when driving enthusiastically, also puts the power down better in wet conditions.

I would go for the Avant Quattro, if you get bored of the standard power a simple remap transforms the 2.0T engine, then you will be glad you went for the quattro.

Apart from the slightly lower fuel economy it doesnt cost that much more, you will go through tires a lot quicker though depending on how you drive

I'd go for the quattro aswell, you don't realise how much traction you're loosing on the road until you're driving one. Just general daily driving like pulling out of juntions is so much easier not to mention how much more confidence you get throwing it about.

Thanks guys, I feel like I should go for the Quattro (wife wants one as well, for added safety on wet / greasy roads).

Can any of you comment on the boot space - is it less on the Quattro?
