I am having my car looked at next week. I got a warning that one of my lights (off side reversing) was not working. Audi said they would replace the bulb under warrantee (£2) but then discovered it was a different fault.

So it is going in to be fixed. They are going to use the visit to apply two software upgrades - not sure what these are for.

But there is something else that is bothering me. I went for a 5 mile trip yesterday. Stopped for a hour & drove home. At no time did I go above 50mph & because it is multitronic I doubt it went above 2000 rpm.

Yet when I got home the fan was on & stayed for the best part of 10 minutes. I could also hear it when the engine was idling at traffic junctions,

Does this sound like I have a problem coming on?

    Any thoughts anyone.

    Cheers

It may well not be the same thing, but when I had my 5-series beemer, it used to go through a regular exhaust catalyst cleaning cycle at high heat which made it sound like the exhaust was "blown".

Not sure if the A4 does the same thing, I haven't specifically heard it in mine, but I have the manual gearbox.

I have had my 1.8 TFSI for 4 months & done 7000 miles. More often than not the 'fan' runs for several minutes when I switch off. Does not seem to be related to how hard you drive it or the outside temperature. Happens more when I have been in slow traffic. I have assumed it is to cool the turbo down.

I think what you are describing is nomal.

Mine does this on a 1.8T Manual 3 months almost 2600 miles. No pattern to it, sometimes it does it on short trips, other times after long distances it does not. Im not concerened about it, the Temp Gauge inside never goes above 50C so Im sure yours is OK.

I had a nearside reversing light failure a couple of weeks after I first got the car....came up on the display to warn me though. Dealer changed the bulb holder which was faulty......may be a weakness? Although the violent boot opening probably didn't help!

The fan comes on sometimes even after a short trip but not too worried as I understand that this is just to ensure that it cools down without imparting undue thermal stress on the engine.
