I've got a third party USB connector and a fully paid for licensed and legal Vag-Com 409. It works as expected and a couple of times its been very useful when I needed to diagnose a central locking fault and stop the aircon flashing when I started the engine after a battery replacement.

Qusestion is, would I get anything extra by updating to the official Vag-Com Key-USB with the hardware dongle included and which will use the latest Vag-Com software? Any extra functions in the newest software or is just that it supports Vista and the included lead can be used on any pc or laptop?

I see Genden are doing this for £179.95 just now and wondered what extra I would get by upgrading.

The one you mentioned is the older design key usb and will work on cars up to 2003-2005. It wont work on the newer cars with can-bus protocol. I suggest you go for the full can-bus version ONLY if you have a newer car or do professional work wich will warrant such an investment. If you are planning to keep the car you have at the moment, the one you have is more than enough !

Thank you. Its just used by me on my 1997 C5, so if nothing to be gained I'll stick with 409! I can't usually resist a discounted bargain, but on this occasion will keep my wallet closed.

    Many thanks.
