    Hi,
Driving home yesterday up a steep hill......suddenly temp guage shot up from normal into red, and the STOP etc etc came up.

Stopped, opened bonnet but was too dark to see anything and my torch was next to useless. Waited 10 mins and started engine, temp now normal so limped home about 5 miles.

Checked coolant this AM, all OK. Went on test drive, same result when climbing steep hill, opened bonnet, coolant boiling. Waited 10 mins and drove home.

What could be the causes ??

    Thanks

Check main fuses on top of the battery.
Have a search on here for "fan relay".

    Thanks

    Settled for Water Pump

Fans cut in when hot and idling....not when being driven and hot, so idea is water not circulating.

    Thanks for response

It would be a good idea to change cam belt, tensioners etc. and auxilliary belts while the front is off.

    Best,
    Frank
