my mate has just bought a specced up passat brand new for 23k, got price down from 26, he says it is uninvolving and boring to drive as esp and tcs cuts in all the time taking the fun out of the driving, he used to have 2 litre petrol focus and was used to chucking it sideways into corners, im going to drive it tommorow and let him drive mine an i'll report back on how wisely he thinks he has spent his money, they are same hp, mine being 99 afn tdi with 143hp and his being brand new 140 2.0 tdi, there musnt be much difference performance wise should there?

before i drive them i'll say mine will be more of a kick up the backside when it comes to out and out low gear performance but i think his will be smoother as it ought to be.

i'll let you know guys and take some photos

Got to agree, what happened to the run in? He'll be p'd off and whinging about it's reliablity when it starts having major components packing up and fault codes galore.

Indeed, he should be driving it gently in the run-in phase not leathering it. Once all the components are moving freely it will feel a bit faster, but not if he leathers it all day.

I hope VW aren't turning into the new Mercedes, I got rid of mine because of the very reason that the TC was forever getting in the way!
