I was driving home after work this morning and the battery warning light came on and a "Check Alternator" error came on... I turned off everything like aircon, radio ETC. I also checked that the belts were moving and that the power steering was still working ETC and they all seemed fine.
I turned the car off and came back a bit later however the warning light still came on.

Anyone got any idea's what it could be? What are the risks if I keep driving it when this warning?
Also I have just had it re-mapped so I dont know if it is a genuine fault or just the ECU playing up?

If that light came on, it might be worth checking the output of your alternator...find a good earth point e.g negative on the battery, and checking the red points of the alterantor, turn on ALL electric devices, fans, radio, rear heated window, ALL lights, everything then check the output of the alternator, ideally more than 12.5v

I check the battery when the car is off and its running just over 12V.
I checked the alternator with everything runnng and it was puming out about 11.5V... Its not that low but do you think it could cause the warning light to come on?

If this reading is ok the only other thing I can think of is that the fault code just might need clearing?

if youve only got 11.5v with the engine running and all electrical stuff on then thats a good indication that your alternator has died. it should be about 13v. what reading do you get with the engine running and nothing switched on? if its less than 13.5v then youve got a problem.

    Hi
I have called Mark fom Chip-N-Spin and he says that the remapping would have nothing to do with it.
I have just called my local Audi TT Specialist who say it is running too low.
I have it booked in with them for 4PM and they aint too expensive to check it out
