Cambelt/4th Service in Sussex/Surrey/Hants recommendations?

Hi gang,

My Passat is coming up to 74k and is due for it's 4th variable service and cambelt change.

My local VW garage in Horsham has just closed, and VW Crawley are quoting £250.00 for the service (not inc brake fluid) and £462.24 for a cambelt change. Sounds steep to me.

Can anyone recommend a decent dealer in Sussex, Surrey or Hampshire who uses VW parts for a service and/or cambelt change that might do it at a REASONABLE price!

are you looking for a vw dealer or a good independent repairer. if you want a independent try chipstead valley which is in coulsdon the phone number is 02087638886 and tale him you want vw parts fitted .

HI AAman, quite happy to go independant as long as the service uses VW parts and is performed according to the VW schedule. I have only had the car 4 months and am planning on keeping it, so not overly fussed by the VW stamp, just so long as it's still got the FSH inaccordance with VW's recommendation. I'll give them a call, thanks very much for the info.

IGS quoted £225 for the cambelt kit, £45 for the water pump at the same time and (from memory) about £180 for a longlife service. All prices inclusive of labour, VW parts and VAT. Sounds competitive. Any more recommendations for Surrey or Sussex?

Had a VW logo'd letter from my VW dealer in Essex quoting £280 for a Cambelt on a 2.0TDI. I took the letter to a better dealer in Ipswich and they matched the price and fitted a water pump at the same time for an additional £35. The water pump is important as if the plastic impellers go it's another cambelt priced job. I suggest you haggle hard with VW dealers as then you get the 2 year warranty on the belt. Try and find a dealer that's not too busy and want the work.

Hi Limawhiskey, Thanks for the advice. My local dealer went bust last month, but there's another one opening up in January. I'll keep my eyes peeled for opening offers or price matches as I wasn't aware of a 2 year VW warranty. Cheers,
