Water leak, from pollen filter area, i have same car. Check if your car had recall for this. My car had alarm issue back in 2006, dealer fixed was caused by water getiing true pollen filter seals.

    here mate,
i checked my old invoice by VW dealer

CARRIED OUT CHECKS REF ALARM GOING OFF
FOUND POLLEN FILTER HOUSING LEAKING AND DAMAGE TO WIRING AT BOTTOM OF N/S/F A PILLAR.
REPLACED PLUG, CONNECTERS AND RESEALED POLLEN FILTER HOUSING.

About outstanding recalls, you need ring your main dealer and ask them if any outstanding recalls on your car. It should be free of charge service, and does not matter if you have no Service History record.

They should do at least polen filter seal free of charge + plenuim drains. I can give you part numbers for parts been used, i dont think it wil cost much.

    Hope this will help mate,

to get rid of bonet light you need clear fault codes, you can do it easily with buying cable from ebay, and using Vagcom software.

i would check pollen filter area as well removing pollen filter box.
Check as well any sign of water inside car, wet carpets etc.

I had a problem like this and took my passat to the daelers as it had some warranty.

VW said it was the bonnet switch spring. They also said that they found faults with the courtesy lights inside the car but did not elaborate.

Wish I could be of more help

disconnect your bonnet switch if it will help. On the actual metal lock, there is a small micro switch, probably covered in grease so it maybe hard to spot, just means your bonnet will not be alarmed. As far as the pollen filter seal goes, what the dealership do is take the old rubber seal off and replace with what they call " dum dum sealer". a long strip of play-do, which fits round the pollen filter. 10 min job. will cost around 10 pounds. beats paying the dealership
