Hello to anyone reading this, i have just picked my t5 transporter up. I drove it home put ten pound fuel in to check mpg, it did 33 mpg. and that i pushed.\
the figure for it is 46, i have also noticed parts of the dash board are broke. i have read into it on the net, there are alot of people complaining about the reliablity of the thing.
can anyone shead some light on this

I have an 85bhp 1.9 TDI SWB T5. Mine only gives me about 36, VW have been very optimistic in their mpg quotes.

I'm very happy with the T5 so far, I bought it from a useless garage and had to do a bit of work myself to make it legal! See one of my threads that are on here somewhere...

The remote central locking is intermittent, one night it suffered power loss three times but since has been fine. It keeps going and going, and it IS the easiest and most relaxing van I've ever driven. Before I had Fiat Doblos, Fiat Scudos and I still have a Renault Trafic (well it's work's ) and the T5 is the pick of the bunch to be honest.

Having said that, the central locking problem may be something as little as the radio connector, while the power loss looks like it was bad fuel from BP! Filling it up at Shell has made it run perfect every time. There's an idea for you.

hi thanks for that, the problems i have.
Two parts of the dash board have come lose, the bit under the glove box, and the bit where the hazards go.
i think the cam belt needs doing, the fuel needle goes up and down, regardless of the fuel level.

Do you have some of the same,

Nope, I've not had any of those problems. All I had to do is get a new glovebox, because the previous owner was a heavy-handed <swear>.

As a general rule its 60k or 4 years, whichever comes first. VW might say 80k... but in my opinion at that mileage you're risking it.

I think you'll find the T5's have timing chains not belts. I know mine does (174 Sportline) My van's been ultra reliable. It's just over 2 yrs old, a bit thirsty (28-30mpg max) but goes like stink.

Mine definitely has a timing belt, or that's what the service history states, timing belt change.

Because it was done less than 25k ago I've not found the need to check. Will check tomorrow.

    Hello.
The larger engines in the T5s,2.5, have gear driven cams.
