For the record, the SE has most of the Sport's extra equipment over the S, but adds a few more on top.

I went for the SE mainly because I didn't fancy the stiffer suspension - the SE is stiff enough for me, although the extra toys on the Sport would have been nice, and I particularly like the Sport's thick-spoked alloys.

The original SE spec over the S was as follows:

    Function
    – Bag hook in luggage compartment
    – Cruise control (SE and SEL only)
    – Driver’s seat with electric 6-way adjustment
    including lumbar support
    – Electric windows, rear
    – Front centre armrest with cooled storage
compartment and two rear air vents
    – Front passenger’s seat height and lumbar
    adjustment
    – Load-through provision
    – RCD 300 radio/single CD player with
    8 speakers, 4 front, 4 rear
    – Reading lights, chrome-plated surrounds,
    front x 2, rear x 2
    – Rear centre armrest with storage
    compartment and two cup holders
    – Storage compartments in luggage area x 2,
    right and left
    – Storage pockets on front seat backrests
    – Storage trays in dashboard x 2
    – 12V socket in rear and luggage compartment

    Interior
    – Ambient interior lighting
    – ‘Blackpoint’ decorative inserts in dash
and ‘Soft Silver’ decorative inserts in
    centre console
    – Front comfort seats
    – Leather rimmed three-spoke steering wheel
    and gear knob
    – Upholstery – ‘Verona’ velour

    Exterior
    – Alloy wheels, four 7J x 16 ‘Catalunya’ with
    215/55 R16 tyres and anti-theft wheel bolts
    – Body-coloured front bumper strips
    – Chrome-plated side bump strips
    and rear bumper strips
    – Chrome side window surrounds
    (SE and SEL only)
    – White turn signal lights integrated

    into front bumper

The original Sport equipment over the SE:

    Exterior

    – Alloy wheels, four 7
    12J x 17 ‘Monte Carlo’ with
    235/45 R17 tyres and anti-theft wheel bolts
    – Heat insulating tinted glass 65% light
    absorbing from B pillar backwards

    Function

    – Air conditioning, 2Zone electronic
    climate control
    – Automatic coming/leaving home
    lighting function
    – Automatic dimming interior rear-view mirror
    – Dusk sensor, automatic driving lights
    – Front fog lights
    – Full size alloy spare wheel
    – Rain sensor
    – Sports suspension, lowered by approx. 15 mm

    Interior

    – ‘Blackpoint’ decorative inserts in dash
    and ‘Sportpoint’ decorative inserts in
    centre console
    – Front sports seats
    – Upholstery – ‘Karah’ cloth

Stringman - If you can stretch yourself to the Sport with DSG, you won't be disappointed. The sport has much better trim than the S model, and the DSG is a fab gearbox.

I wanted leather upholstery and after seeing the leather seats in the SE I had to get a Sport as they look so much nicer in my opinion.
I get what you're saying about the harsh suspension of the Sport but I don't find it that bad. Things like the cruise control are options on the Sport and easy enough to have retro fitted.

We must have been quite lucky with the Sport we bought (2nd hand) but it has quite a few options like cruise, 6 disk changer, heated front screen, cat vision and full sports leather.

To be fair the Sport we have is a 2 litre Tdi (6 speed box) compared to the 1.9TDi (5 speed box) so the 2 cars feel very different on the road as well as in appearance.

It always feels like a step down in class to go to the S spec Passat.

I'd choose the Sport every time!

    BUGGER

Having placed the post regarding the sport model after an 18 hour day I checked and realised that the mileage was 57000 not 5700!!!

so after looking at the stocklist and seeing only AD or AF cars in his stock I realised what they have done

" yes sir we understand, please feel free to exchange your ex hire car with......................... another ex hire car. We hope this resolves the problem.

Time to up the ante methinks!!!

That's disgraceful - talk about adding insult to injury!! Obviously, the ****** at VW doesn't communicate with his brain on a regular basis. Maybe a phone call to Santa requesting that Rudolf delivers a very special reindeer curry from the skies above...

    Thats what I thought!
But I have a secret weapon

One of the dads at my sons school is an area manager for said firm!
he used to be these muppets boss!! ( if only it was a few months ago)
BUt I am sure that I can find out the name and email of the area VW manager.

Just imagine the sales mangers face when I say " shall i referr to xxxx xxxx, I am sure he will be able to help me!"

    almost worth the hassle

Amazing what a bit of name dropping can do!!
    got a phone call today.
Again offered a replacement car (and as my car was originally up for much more that £10.5k I ws given that price range.)
Still no suitable cars so we finally reached an agreement on
a 2 year extension to the warranty.

I could have got a service as well I am sure but I just wanted it sorted.

I have to say that the sales manager (when he realised I was serious) was very helpful and understanding.

not the perfect result but still a good one.

All things considered I am happy-- I can drill the roof to fit my DAB aerial now!!

I've got a meeting with my Dealer Principal tomorrow morning but I'm not enitrely confident that I'll get anywhere, other than the same offer of my money back, which he knows is unlikely to happen.

However, great news for you Stringman - nice result fella!!

I purchased AG07XXX in July this year. I was told that it was an ex-VW fleet car. But it does say Enterprise on the V5. The car was a good price & no problems.

Mine was from VW main dealer in Essex, I saw them mentioned earlier.

I doubt if I could complain, even if I had a case. I should have rejected the car or not purchased it if I wasn't happy about its history?
