Why on earth do you want to rev that high at stationary????

    Does your car have DSG?

The probable reason there is a stationary, or "no load" rev limit, is because high engine revs, with no load on those high revs can actually cause accelerated engine wear, and even engine failure!

The reason I asked about DSG, which you didn't answer, is because the "launch control" mode restricts the engine revs to either 3,200 rpm for the 2.0T FSI, or 3,000 rpm for the 3.2 FSI VR6. Other engines may have a different launch revs!

Would it be wise to fit a turbo timer to the GT TSI? If so, is there a particular one to recommend? If there's no need, why not? I've never owned a turbocharged or supercharged car before. I guess with the GT, it ticks both of my 'to do' car list in some ways and then some.

No need for Chavtastic turbo timers. The engine management ECU instructs an auxillary electric coolant pump to run after the engine is turned off. The turbo is actually water cooled.

I think the basic ethos of the TSI will be a little different to either a turbo or a blown motor!
