Hi, I have just bought my 3rd Mk2 GTI 8v (1989)and collcected it this evening, it drives and runs really well but the only difference I can see from the ones I have owned before is that the accelerator pedal is very stiff. I removed the mat to make sure that it was not that preventing it from dipping easily but it's not that. Anyone got any ideas as to what it might be? Its not just a little stiff but really needs you to bury your foot to get any real acceleration. My other 2 8v's were nothing like this. Any help would be much appreciated.

    Cheers

Yeah My Old Mk2 Gti Went Like This, I Fitted A New Cable Then It Was Nice And Light, Or You Can Try Spraying Wd40 Or Spray Greese On The Inner Cable And See If That Helps:d

Yeah I would have thought there the only two things you can do! lube the pedal hinges and maybe throttle housing fixture, or new cable!

my pedal had the same problem... i'm starting to think it's had too many problems... anyway the cable snapped when i picked it up at the airport when i came back from a buisness trip. not exactly what you want when clean wrecked! but a call to the RAC man and i was on my way home. i replaced the whole cable at my first oppertunity causr it was only a temp fix. nox it's sweet. haynes is great for it.

I have had this in a Mk1 GTI as well as my old Mk2 GTI. I have cured it both times with a new throttle cable. It is actually quite a straight forward thing to do. Just be prepared to do some scrabbling around in the footwell! Alternatively, as suggested by dieselman580 and grease the cable!
    Hope this helps,
    Tom
