    Hi,

I'm after a bit of advice if possible. I've had my A4 Tdi 170 since June of this year it had 13.5k on the clock when I bought it. It's a 57 registration so it had a bit of a busy start in life I guess!

I have only pushed it up to 15k since. I only drive to the railway station and back each day although I've had the occasional early morning blast to the airport (just to clear the cobwebs!) as well.

My query is that from my present usage the service indicator is saying 340 days to the next service, which from a financial point of view seems like good news but I can't help feeling it's a pretty long time to leave the same oil sloshing around in a fairly high tech engine.

Should I elect for an earlier service or do you think with my low mileage I'll be OK?

Any advice or previous experience very much appreciated.

    Cheers.

I had the same concern initially but have decided to stick with long life service interval. If Audi are happy with this and giving us a further 2 years warranty then I suppose we should share their confidence.

    Chaser...

i would go with shorter service intervals personally/
audi only have to warrant another two years, you may want to keep it longer than that,
and that iswhen it will cost you.

I bought a 170 with 14k on the clock and the indicator asked me to service at 18.5k.

After 300 miles it makes an assessment based on journey types as to when variable service 2 is due. Mine currently states a year after service 1 or 8700 miles (i.e. 9000 after the 1st). This is based on 20 miles per day averaging about 14mph.

So on this basis I'm happy to stick with variable as I have the long life oil and it's going to be reserviced in a year anyway.

    Thanks for the repsonses.

I am a bit confused by the "further 2 year warranty" comments. I thought the car had a 3 year manufacturers warranty as standard irrespective of the servicing schedule.

Is that right or have I got the wrong end of the stick again?

    Many thanks.

If you buy the car second hand from an Audi Franchise Dealer they are running an offer of extending the warranty a further 2 years- think he means that.

Yes you will get a 3 years manufacturers warranty. Audi ran a promotion recently - if you bought a pre owned car from their dealerships you get either 2 years free servicing or 2 years warranty

Hmmm... My dealer didn't offer me either and I've only had the car a few months. Not surprising though they were lovely people but I've have had to chase them for everything every step of the way!... No owners manual, no keyfob, no RNS-E DVD, no complimentary litre of oil and the PDI was so efficient I found a bag of sweets and a load of kids drawings in the rear centre armrest! Oh, and they "forgot" to settle the finance on my trade-in so I ended up paying for two cars!!

Obviously the 2 year warranty would be of little use to me, there was more than that left on the car anyway, but 2 years free servicing would be nice!

Any idea when this offer was on?

If you buy an Approved Used Audi between 17th and 27th October 2008, you can enjoy either 2 years’ free servicing or a 2-year Audi warranty.

Free servicing ensures that your Audi will receive specialist attention from our Audi Trained Technicians for the duration of the offer, while the extended warranty means you're covered for an extra 12 months.

    What you get:
    2 years' free servicing

    • Cost includes all parts and labour
    • Only expert Audi-trained technicians will work on your car
    • Only genuine Audi parts and diagnostic equipment will be used
    • Two years’ warranty on all genuine Audi parts

    2-year warranty
    • Balance of Audi Manufacturer Warranty topped up to 24 months with Audi Guarantee*
    • 24 months' Audi Roadside Assistance

    Thanks for the quick reply!

That would explain why I wasn't offered it!

Still a little concerned that my car will potentially have the same oil in it for over two years!!
