Any info greatly appreciated...
If the timing belt has not been done its probably best to get it done now, it is 4 years or 60k whichever comes first, but better safe than sorry.

Do you know what was replaced at the last service?

A pollen filter, air filter and oil filter and oil replacement is standard on a service, but if the fuel filter wasn't done last time then it will need replacing this time.

Use the service as an opportunity to check for blocked drain holes beneath the battery, that can cause horrendous problems with the CCU and leave you with a big repair bill. Also check when stationary, on full lock left or right, that there is no clattering/squeeling noise of some sort, if there is, you will need to replace the alternator pulley bearing, as the A6s use a one way clutch on the alternator.
