Hello today so I pulled out of ********* got down the root and my car informs me that the boot is open, so I pulled out and yup, it's ******!

what the problem is, is the lock mechanism doesn't lock, i close down the boot but its not locking, and on the mechanism there's like a tiny latch which should lock in place, however its really loose so i'm guessing a spring has broken.

But my man question is, to replace the lock mechanism is it just disconnecting the wiring for central locking, take the cable out for th lock and undo the 2 bolts that hold it in.

Fit with new part and reverse the process?

This is the part, is the module for the electrics included in this or do I have to take it off the old one and put it in the new one?

all my electrics work as I see it working, just the lil latch isn't locking

Hello, yes I'm not sure if the micro switch (is that whats its called) comes with it, is it simple slide on and off?

If it involves soldering then I'll be screwed.

I'm hoping VW will have a supply of these at my local dealer as I currently don't have a lock on my boot :O can just lift it up

Good job I've got lockable garage

When you say "twisting it out" what do you mean, or wil it all become clear once i've unbolted it?

Hey up, managed to leave work and got it all fixed before darkness. I got confused with the little white electric bit at first, but seemed a breeze.

Once it was all connected up and screwed in, the electric boot release on the boot didn't want to work, opening boot via remote, lock barrel and inside worked, just not on the boot.

I got ****** off with it and just thought I got other ways of opening it, put the fabric carper padding back on, closed it, locked car, opened it again then the boot button worked, so win win!

Part only cost me £16.34 something from VW in Hedge End, Southampton.

Very pleased, thanks for all your help people

I have had the same problem recently and in another thread someone mentioned that VW are stocking up on these boot lock parts as the springs break which is what happened to mine.

Well on mine was the little spring broke but the actual lock bit looked in bad shape.

Have you fitted your new lock? it's quite an easy job luckily enough
