This is bad. My wife's Sharan (2.0 petrol) failed to start in the middle of the school run back in June, so I towed it home and it sat on the drive Now I come to look at the bus.
It was a bit (very) low on gas, put a gallon in. Plug in Sealey VAG 862 scanner - crank sensor intermittent, low volts terminal 30 (battery was original and won't take a charge) Replaced the sensor - baked wires so shorting out. New battery. Cleared thos two.
Then I accidentally cleared the DTC that said something about IMMOBILIZER but every time I plug it in after a cranking, no more codes and it just won't fire.
Am I missing something really obvious?
It doesn't throw up any more DTC's, so does the ECU need a reset? How?
    Should I suspect the Immobilizer?

There's more than one computer in the car, scan all of them. As for smoking wires, what else got smoked?
Did you check the basics like compression? ignition? fuel pressure and flow?

Ok. Baked wiring was the crank sensor (G28) - the wires were threaded behind the oil filter/cooler head and 10 years of engine heat had cooked the insulation. The car recognises the remote key. Fuel pump primes when driver's door is opened (hums for about 2-3 seconds)
Did have an immobilizer DTC but accidentally cleared it (cold and shivering + got distracted) but this hasn't come back.
Dash sounds a beep for each failed start after cranking.
No spark, but no DTC for coil either (single block type coil)

    Any more suggestions?

Are you getting a good spark at your plugs, if not suspect the coil pack.

My 2.0 petrol 1998 did the same thing once and it was the coil causing a very weak spark.

    Cheers
