Heated front seats not working

Hi,

I have recentley purchased a 53 reg tdi with heated front seats. However they do not work? I have checked the fuse and its was ok. Any ideas what else could be wrong??

Does it really have them, or has someone put the switches in the blank holes to make it look nicer?

How would i check if they are heated seats or not?? The switches light up with the dash and there is a fuse holder in the correct location with a 30a fuse in.

I am assuming they are heated becasue there are other manufacturer upgrades on the car such as fog lights, spolier and cruise control which i dont think are standard equipment on the sport model?

For two seats, there would be 4 heating pads and it would be unfortunate but not impossible for all four pads to be faulty. It sounds as though you do have them if the switches light up and the fuse is present. The switches can fail, and there is a recall on in the USA for these. I suppose the next thing to do would be to pull out a switch with a spatula and see if you can workout which pins to short in the socket. You will have to see which do the +ve backlight, which is -ve for backlight, which is 12v ign feed and 12v to the seat etc...

Yeah, many people on this and uk passats forums had burned out seats due to failed heater elements. I would not want to be driving while my boom is on fire...I do have an 98 a6 with heated seats and had no problem soo far but i heard many horror stories about late 2001+ moddels !
