Hi can any one help, like a numpty i left the interior light on over night in my 1.9 TD T4. ..... I tried to jump start it off a booster pack but it was flat. Then i tried to jump start it off my car, with jump leads but connected the leads negative to positive by mistake. now it wont turn over at all...! Now when i turn the key all that happens is the dash lights come on and a little click, followed by a buzzz sound which seems to be coming from the dash area. Have i fried the ECU..?

    bob,
i'm only guessing, from what i've read on here.
i honestly can't tell you exactly where it is,but if you type "buzzing relay"
or similar into the forum search,it's well discussed.
i would say it was the starter relay, but only guessing.
i wouldn't have thought the ecu would put the dash lamps on if it was fried.
only guessing, but try the search for the buzzing relay.
    regards,
    stewy.

I would check all fuses as well as the specific 'buzzing relay' as you never know what else could have blown. Good luck!

Thanks Stewy , i'll have a read through.. Thinking back im not sure that the digital part (the bit that shows the mileage) was showing anything, it may have only been the little Red & Yellow bulbs that where lit, I'll have to check that again in the morning. and the buzzin happened after i turned the key back off, i dont know if that sheads any more light on it...?

Cheers Jay, I'll check those too..

What a result...! Having spoken to several mechanics and searched the interweb, i was told " Ah sounds like you've fried the ECU" or " That will be the starter relay." and "you probably blown a fuse" and even " You've probably killed the starter motor" Argghhh..! So i was expecting a rather hefty repair bill one way or another.... Then i bumped into an old mate of mine, who works on fork lift trucks, and he said " I reckon you've done the battery" So i thought id get a new one as that sounded like the best place to start.... BINGO..!!!!
So if any body else is unlucky (Stupid) enough to do what i did , It's worth trying a new battery first. £45 Job done..!
