My ISP have told me the line tests ok, but the rapid resyncs yesterday, could have caused the exchange to stabilize the line, locking it at a lower speed for a few days (true or not?) or my filter plate is going down... router issue...

Only true to a certain extend. Yes it is possible that the resyncs have locked the line to a lower speed. But at the end of the day those resyncs were caused due to abnormal behaviour somewhere on the line, your router or the exchange equipment. It doesn't necessarily need to have been a permanent fault, so the fact that they couldn't find any problems when testing the line is perfectly plausible.

However: "troubelshhoting 101" in that kind of an environment includes performing a reset of the line from the ISP's end. I'd be very disappointed if my guy's here at work would not offer to do this as a first measure of trying to resync the line at a higher speed and probably advise them of my disapproval with a kick up the backside... I think you're perfectly entitled to call your ISP and ask them to do this to see what the result might be. It's a five minute job that requires them to tap a few keys on their keyboard. How hard can it be?

I had problems with mine last week. I put it down to a firmware upgrade on my router. I downgraded it and everything returned to normal.

Hi everyone from the other side of the world. Pleased to see we are not the only ones with broadband problems. I was actually looking for info on resetting the MMI in my 06 A6 when I saw this so thought a response worthwhile. We have "high speed" wireless BB which has been running at <40kbps if at all. Problem turned out to be new neighbours with a high out put wireless router networked to their parent's computer across the road.

Is 2Megs good or just the best your getting. What are your router stats, downstream attenuation and noise margin so a realistic theoretical speed can be calculated.

This subject prompts me to ask a question. My Mum got 8mb BT broadband about 18 months ago and according to their software (I assume anyway) the pop up box on connection originally suggested 7.7mb download speed however as each month went by that has reduced to 3.4mb.

I am guessing the pop up box is not providing very accurate info but in relative terms it suggests a big impact in throughput maybe due to additional users?

Should I contact BT to query this?

It is quite common for speeds to change a lot on a ADSL connection... I defo would check your Telco (internal) wiring including the face plate.

I am running on about 18MB download on DSL at the moment
