My Broadband is now on snail power......

I live a long way from the exchange, so my speed has never been great, regular 1.2 mb but since using DMT tool, I have been getting around 1.7 mb... for some reason my router resynced 3 times in the matter of 1 hour... now running at 512k

Now need to check everything... but 24 hours later still the same....

Suggestions so far include checking my filtered faceplate..

    Any other ideas?

I had problems with mine last week. I put it down to a firmware upgrade on my router. I downgraded it and everything returned to normal.

I am going to disconnect everything on Saturday, and remove the filtered faceplate from the master socket. I can then check the connection via another filter and a direct connection..

I am baffled though.. whilst it is useable at the slow speed, the extra little bit is nice...

My ISP have told me the line tests ok, but the rapid resyncs yesterday, could have caused the exchange to stabilize the line, locking it at a lower speed for a few days (true or not?) or my filter plate is going down... router issue...

I hate living in the country

Half of Birmingham's Blueyonder service (including my own) went down altogether for three whole days just over a week ago. I seriously didn't know what to do with myself, withdrawal/frustration doesn't even come close to covering it!

Not being a computerist, what is a DMT tool, a filtered faceplate, firmware and an ISP? Is this some sort of text language as some people use on mobile telephones?

I think DMT is a piece of software (program) that caches web pages (stores them upfront) for quicker access, either that or some hallucinogenic drug

Filtered Faceplate, if you have broadband you need a noise filter on every other socket to the one your broadband device is connected into. This device does away with that I think.

Firmware - The basic program in certain electrical devices.

ISP - Internet Service Provider, says it in the name I think.

As Malc has stated, a filtered face plate fits onto your master socket, and gives your router a direct link to the phone line, bypassing the internal wiring, allowing you to remove all other filters. This cuts down on noise caused by internal wiring.... believe me for around £10 I would recommend one if your router plugs into the master socket...

    See ADSL Nation website.

DMT Tool is a piece of software that allows you to tweak your router setting. This allows you to select the noise ratio so you can get a better speed... using this my speed went from 1.2mb to 2.0mb

    Search for DMT Tool

I can recommend both of these

I think my faceplate is going down because I am getting the same speeds I was getting
    before I fitted it....

I am going to try plugging into the master socket behind the socket cover Saturday, if my speed goes up, it will prove it's faulty...

Hundreds of thousands of people, including myself have been having problems this week. With official explanations ranging from 'workmen cutting through a fibre backbone' to oversubscription contention.

Noone has so far given me a satisfactory explanation.

I just hope it is not the result of some sort of poorly implemented national 'database' scheme.
