My Oct 2006 2.0 TDi has developed an incredibly irritating squeak-squeak-squeak noise from the heating fan inside the car! It high pitch but the squeak happens at a rate of 3 or 4 times a second.

Having experimented over the last few days the squeak is linked to the fan being on (it stops as soon as you turn the fan off) and the movement of the car. A bumpy road makes the squeak more pronounced as does the weather ie on a frosty morning the noise is slightly different.

My guess is rather that the fan motor itself, its something about how the unit is mounted. If its on bushes (of some kind) then those are rubbing OR a cable or similar is rubbing against the unit.

Can someone point me at where the unit is in the dashboard/centre console area and, more importantly, am I going to bu**er anything up by giving it a quick spray with WD40?!

Any other suggestions very gratefully received.

Thank you

David
