thermostat location

Hi,
i have a a4 avant 1.9tdi 110 w plate 2000 and would like to know where the thermostat lives.
i would also ask where the temp sensor lives.
mine takes ages to warm up and ocasionally the temp drops back to 60(sometimes briefly or sometimes for a while).this happens under various driving conditions
any info appreciated.

Hi, If you follow the top water hose from the radiator to the engine you should get to it.It will possibly be a black plastic dome shape with 2x 6mm bolts.Remove bolts and you will see the rubber `O` ring and the Thermostat.In the area of the water pump.
The Temp. sensor is possibly in the same place as the A4 petrol,if you look at the bulkhead at the rear of the cylinder head,there may be a sensor with a plastic horseshoe clip to hold it,at that location,it has 4 wires on the plug connector.It also has a rubber `O`ring seal.
