Hi just wondering what you guys think of the current climate of used car market.

Just back from looking at purchasing a B8 S line and nearly burst into tears when the Audi ******* at Stirling offered me £10,750 for my B7 S line 2.0TDI 55 Plate-

****** you off when they are trying to flog an 05 plate SE with higher miles for £12,500 on the forecourt.
And I also think mine looks better than any B7 they have but I might just be biased lol.

There's a flood of B7s out there second hand now- you will always get a lower price on trade in so it is best to sell privately if you can.

To give you an idea of prices- my mate at work has just picked up an '06 S4 with 24000miles for £18k and I have seen an '05 with 40000 miles going for £16k.

You can get some high mileage SEs for 8k though.

I have just purchased a B8, when i placed the order in Sept the local ******* told me my 05 plate, quatz grey,18k only, s-line 2.0 tdi was worth just £11k on that day, but would only offer £10k for the November delivery date. Earlier in the year (aprox March) i had enquired about trade in values and was told my car was worth £14k, so it looks to me that B7s are depreiciating at about a thousand pounds every six weeks.

I have been loyal to Audi for some 20 years now, but i am totally unhappy with the way that trade in values have fallen this year. I feel these trade in values offered by the dealers are purely to boost their profits, and do not reflect the real world value of the cars.

I am kicking myself as at launch i was being offered around the £15k mark but as all S Line models were top dollar I decided to hold out for a ex demo or pick one up used but just my luck the **** has fallen out the 2nd hand market now I`m on the lookout.

Doesn`t help when the ******** are telling you cars are dropping around a grand a month.

All this and the new cars actually when up £250 since launch!!!!!!!!

£10750 is a good price at the moment considering they are going for 3k less than that at auction. I paid £4400 for an 05 se avant 3 months ago and if i'd had another 2 grand i could have bought an 05 2.0 tdi s-line with higher miles(70k). The dealer would probably re-sell yours as it's low miles even if they tell you it's going straight to auction.

Well I have gone and done it now.Decided against the B8 but still stayed loyal to the VAG faithful.
Pick up my 2008 VW Touareg TDI Altitude (Black) on Thursday
VW *********** had it on the forecourt for £24,995 but after some hard negotiating got them to £21k.
Offer of £11k for my B7 was increased to £11,500 after what seemed like a lifetime!!
So all in all I am chuffed as its the first time I have left a ******** and actually felt like I got a deal.
Oh and managed rear parking sensors and FULL tank of Diesel (phew) in the deal.
Lucky for me too that the *********** had put on a set of 22" RS4`s the week before.
Will post pics when I can, but have to say the Touareg forum is lifeless so might be a Billy no mates!!!

Out of interest, what tactics did you use for your haggling - sorry, negotiating?!

Going to be in a similar situation in a couple of weeks and could do with as many tips as possible to pay as little as possible for a 57 plate A4 Avant 2.0 (140) TDI SLine with a reasonable spec anf 15k miles.

Any tips / advice very welcome!

Best bet is find similar car on auto trader and use that as reference.
I found one in a dealer in Kilmarnock and used that.
Told the VW dealer that I had been offered £11,500 against a Touareg they had in Kilmarnock, which if they checked up on was online, at £21k. What I didn`t tell them though was it was a 56 plate and the older model .
Told them the dealer, from Kilmarnock ,had contacted me that day to tie up a deal ,but I had seen the one they had, and told him I would get back to him later that day,because I would rather deal with this dealer as it was more local.
This put a bit of pressure on VW and they said they would try and come up with a similar package. 2 hours later BINGO.
I then pushed my luck and said if they fit rear parking sensors and give a full tank of diesel I would sign there and then.
So not a bad deal considering the car was £36k new before the new 22" RS4`s were fitted and it is only 8 months old.
