    Hi,

I have an issue with my cigarette lighter in my car, when pushed down it doesn't actually stay down however it will get hot. I replaced the lighter but the issue persists.

The actually socket seems to work fine as it charges my phone and runs my tom-tom.

Is there anything I can do to fix this?

    Thanks in advance.

Is it an actual cigerette lighter outlet or a 12v outlet as there is a difference ?

Funny - I've had a problem with my lighter this week too!

I have been having trouble charging my TomTom - the light comes on but no charge goes into the battery. Had the same problem with a friends TomTom too.

I tried the cigarette lighter in the socket, and it doesn't get hot either. Tested the voltage with a meter and I get 19v. I've also checked the power socket in the boot and that is 19v too.

Anybody got any ideas why I have 19v through a 12v socket?

no idea! seems a bit odd - have you spoken to VW at all about it?

I picked up my new gt sport yesterday, well chuffed with it but I thought thre was a third power point in the armrest (think i got mixed up with a jetta i test drove d'oh!) anyone got any idea if its possible to retrofit a third power point? If not I will go for the easier (and no doubt cheaper) option of installing a multipoint adaptor but really wanted the third plug as it would be far easier for the dvd players for the kids on those long drives..

Not spoken to VW yet - only just diagnosed the problem!

Fitting a socket should be pretty easy. I would buy something like this:
    Cigarette lighter on ebay
Drill a hole the right size wherever you want it and fit it. Then wire it into the back of the existing lighter socket - you should be able to run the wires under the armrest.

Excellent, sounds easier and a lot cheaper then I thought - cheers for the link
