High all , i have a 3door 1.6 litre manual polo 1996 it cuts out/shuts-down/switches off very erratically, jus loses power unexpectedly

I have changed the fuel filter , oil , air filter and put a new ignition coil in it and still same problem. I went to a garage and they charged #20 to plug in the comp and given an error code for the crank shaft sensor now im confused as i dont i know if this is the problem or its the throttle body as ive read on other threads here

from the forums i also read about the throttle body and im looking to get it cleaned out, but id like to get a VAG COM software and lead since i`ve read tht you need to read adapt the throttle body to the ECU .... could any one point me in the correct direction as no idea about versions and shareware/purchase verions and
protocol/bussystem like VPW, PWM or CAN-bus? and where can i get them from i have absolutely no clue and dont want to make things worse.

thank kindly you for you suggestions

hey mate. I have a polo Mk4 also and I used to have this problem.

You may need to clean the throttle body as this is a very common fault, lot of crank fumes collect in the butterfly valve and every so often the build up needs removing for the car to breathe properly.

does it hunt for revs at idle atall? or try and cut out when at idle?

oh and you can use VAG COM to diagnose it. but tbh its cheaper to pay the garage as the software is £££ to buy, the freeware wont do anything for you. it really is limited. oh and the free copy will not diagnose your car or reset the throttle body.
