  1. Four Beeps
    #1
    Benners Guest
    Hi,

Hope someone can help with my question...I have a year 2000 A4...when I initially start the engine in the morning I get four beep sounds that seem to be eminating from behind and to my left (possibly from the rear parcel shelf speaker)...nothing appears wrong with the car so why am I getting these possible warning beeps?? (or am I going mad??)

    Cheers

    Mark

That sounds like your alarm power sounder is in its' way out. It has a sealed rechargeable back-up battery, and when this fails, you get the 4 chirps.

VAG-COM, independent VAG specialist, or main ******* to read the stored fault codes.

I have noticed this alarm in my car ( 2000 A4 Also )
What type of rechargeable battery is it & where do you get one from?
    Main VAG I guess.

What part of "sealed" passed you by? OK, the whole power sounder unit is a sealed, non-serviceable item - fit and forget. When the battery (or anything else in there) goes south, a whole new unit is reqiured.

    Try GSF or ECP.

I wasn't trying to be a "smartarse" at all!

I was simply stating factual information to help the original poster, and you seem to have mis-understood my reply, hence the additional info!

Hey ho - can't win 'em all!

Cheers for the replies folks, where abouts in the car is the unit located ( so I can give it a damn good whack)

Couldn't find any alarm sounder units on the two sites suggested, if I do manage to get hold of one, are they compatible with my key etc?

Sorry if I appear simplistic, but I'm no engineer.

    Regards

    Mark (Benners)

On the B5 A4, it should (but don't hold me to it, 'cause I personally havn't done one) be located in the rear left three quarter panel somewhere. It may be inside the boot, behind the left side carpet trim, or it may be under the wheel arch, after removing the wheel arch liner, though I doubt this location!

Before you finally lay your cash down, you'd be well advised to get the fault codes read. If it defo is the power sounder, as these are very common failures, and relatively easy to change, it shouldn't cost too much to get the dealer to change. Your "key" is not matched to the alarm (save for the rolling remote codes for the central locking), but the new power sounder may need coding to the alarm ECU.

No worries - have a look at the TT-Forum site, where someone did repair it himself: http://www.tt-forum.co.uk/ttforumbbs...=792942#792942 - just seems a lot of faffing myself, when the new ones arn't that expensive (and not £140)!

    Keep us informed, Rgds
