Firstly, apologies for posting this on two forum, I'm just keen for some feedback

    Thanks

    Original message:-

My vehicle has been in the garage for a week to repair some accident (not my fault) damage to the rear bumper. Originally told me it would be 2 days and now is 5 and on going. What has really annoyed me is that a) they didn't order the correct parts before hand and the very best part b) when ordering the part (rear bumper bracket) they only described the part verbally to theie supplier. My question is, does anybody know if there is a standard trade publication that is available to all garages.

What I should also mention is that the dealer is a large mutli dealer agent -VW group and Ford with many dealerships in the area.

Am I being unreasonable in think that parts would be ordered using drawings and/ or part numbers.

Also I would have thought they would assess the damage upon removing the bumper and not when trying to reassemble.

I shall be complaining to dealer and insurance company later, just looking for any more ammunition.

There is one standard bumper for saloons and another for estates but the bumper bracket(alluminium)is standard as well as the stubs they attach to.When repairing your damage(you dont say how bad)the accesors must have the chassis checked for buckling(throws rear axle geometry out)so the car and brakes &suspension etc are still alighned correctly.Any buckles can be straightened but most insurance firms will scrap the car if the damage is beyond a certain point. The parts are standard as far as bumpers go but i do know most work takes at least 3 weeks and like i said,if the bumper was mashed into the body they must asess the chassis for chassis damage. There is paint work and any bumper bracket holes damaged need to be replaced and new mounts welded in.

The damage was very minor, I just can't understand why they only verbally described the part and didn't find a part number

Sorry this doesn't help but the missus has her Mk 4 Golf TDI in after someone drove into the back of her, The VW dealer gave us a brand new Mk 5 Golf as a courtesy car which is far quicker and far more refined, I'd be quite happy for them to take a few weeks so we can get some use out of it. You never know, they might f**k up big style and let us keep this as a replacement but I can't see it happenning.

Hope you get it sorted soon.
