    id say more or less immediatley, i know you may have a few miles of grace etc, but what you have to think about is whether you feel safe. for instance, say you are involved in an accident, your fault or not, you could end up in a very sticky situation.... TBH id try and get them changed asap, could do with a techies opinion on this, iv always changed my pads before the warning lights come on

    The 'Check Brake Pads' light came on in mine after having the car about 6 weeks. I could see through the wheels that there was plenty of depth left on the pads but returned to the dealer anyway. Appears it was a bad connection one of the sensors. Been fine for the 3 weeks since. Can you see if yours look ready for changing?

    From experience on my Golf, the pads were about 3/4's worn first time I did them leaving (quite obviously) a 1/4 remaining.

    However, 2nd time I did them I got no warning at all until things started to grind !!

    The problem on a Golf (assume A3 is the same?) is that the wear sensor is on one front pad only and in my case it was the other inner pad that had worn far quicker than the others. (Note; on the first set I changed, the one with the wear sensor was NOT the most worn pad either).

    I don't know what car you have but my advice is to take the wheels off and have a proper look.

    Also, I've now got a Passat (recently purchased) and know BOTH the fronts have wear sensors, dont know about the rears yet. Don't know about Audi's if they have sensors on all 4 wheels either ? .... All my old (1980's) Fords had x4 sensors though !!

    Best advice is to take the wheels off and visually check all the pads and a rule of thumb ready reckoner is;

    New pads = 15mm

    New pads last 15,000 miles (worse case)

    So remaining miles on your pads = mm's remaining x 1000 miles.

    Hope this helps.

    Stoping is the most important aspect of your car, so I wouldn't recommend driving it until they have been checked by a Compitant person.

    Don't risk your neck.
