    got a 99 2.5 v6 quat avant auto.
when engaging reverse i get a long constant sound beep maybe 3 seconds long.
i guess this means the sensors have a problem?
when i recently parallel parked i got no noise from teh sensors to tell me im closing in on the parked car behind me.

is there a short term way of disabling th noise? ie pulling a certain fuse?

is it easy to change the sensors.? i assume the little lip on teh bottom of th back bumper is a addition over the standard bumpers and may come off the main bumper?

    cheers

ps noticed in service history a couple of sensors were changed early this year...maybe the other 2 have failed?

I ahve very similiar issues. Sometimes a long continuous tone (which does not stop!), sometimes a continuous tone for a few seconds which then repeats itself and sometimes it just works fine!!

I am suer it is a sensor issue the question is how best to identify which one or ones are faulty. I don't know if the long bleeps give a clue but will try and do some research.

I have an early 2002 with the separate rear bumper section which holds the sensors, much like yours most likely. They just clip into place and can be pushed out from behind without removing the bumper or that valance I think.

I noticed when I bought the car one of the sensors has some surface damage on it which could be causing the problem.

I will let you know how I get on.

Ah, don't have it unfortunately. I use Eshrules handy hand held Pro Checker for fault codes and a few other bits but I don't think it will read sensor info.

Maybe it's time to invest in VAGCOM.
