I think they were a factory option, i own a highline and they were not even standard on that.
They are not actually fitted to the colout coded rear bumber, instead they fit to the black plastic strip beneath the rear bumper. this is good as i think sensors can look quite ugly.

Dont know how you would go about getting them fitted, there are loads of after market types i should think? A bloke at work did his own, i think they wire into the reverse lights (So once reverse is selected they activate).

Ill post some pics when im next at home.

As for your choices - i am not familiar with either device, the standard VW system is not as "fancy" there is a speaker that trips on when Reverse is selected - with a series of beeps for the distance.

The LCD displays you showed could either lookg good or tacky - i guess the important thing is to not rely to heavily on the visual display, just look as usual and use the buzzer as a guide.

Just to let you know I have fitted a set of Ebay sensors (£20 inc P&P)
My heart was in my mouth drilling the bumper but all working now and I am amazed how good they are even more so as I only paid £20 for them.
I had to measure it several times just in case.LOL
Many thanks to Dave for a photo of the factory fitted ones.
