    hey all,

    Just noticed my car's engine is low. It's on the longlife service which means it takes longlife oil. I was in halfords the other day and noticed there are 2 different types Castrol edge 0w40 & 5w 40. Can someone please advise me whats the differences

    I believe the one the VW dealers use is Quantum Longlife III 5w 30

    In Halfords, you buy the one that says "meets VW 504.00/507.00". Assuming, of course that you are driving a petrol engine. I think this is the 5W40 jobbie. The other one says it is for BMW's Merc's and other stuff.

    I can't believe it's true but I find that it is cheaper at my VW dealer, especially of you buy in 4L or 5L cans.

    so long as the oil you buy meets the correct vw50x.xx for your car then the brand is not important.

    i use ELF in mine
