    Hey guys + girls,

I've just replaced the headunit in the golf (dead when i bought the car) with a Kenwood CD-player, the cd player asks for the code everytime I turn it on and looses all settings, so I think its gotta be the permanent live. After some probing with the multimeter there are two switched lives from the car ISO connector but no permanent???? whats going on here? So i got a perm live from the amp wire, wired to what the kenwood manual says should be permanent and now the headunit stays on all the time! any help would be much appreciated

Diagram looking from the connection side of the ISO plug

    1 2 3 4 TAB
    5 6 7 8

    1 + 7 = switched live
    non are permanent live

    Thanks

one word my man - REMOTE

you need the remote cable plugged up to something so that it stores the settings and track placings etc but switches the unit off when you are not in the car.

Is the head unit plugged in whilst you are getting two ignitions at the ISO plug? If so, as the guy above says ones the remote feed returning from the headunit. If you check the fusebox you'll probably find that the stereo fuse has blown.

Hey guys, thanks for the replies, no the headunit was not plugged in when i was getting the two switched lives. I figured out that the wire supposedly switched live from the car iso was somehow becoming permanent live when I put power to the wire supposedly permanent live, so I can only guess that they were somehow (mis)connected. It even made the stereo fuse at fuse box permanent live!

So the fix was: new permanent live wired into car ISO connector, AND new switched live from fuse box wired into car ISO connector! what a ball ache for some tunes!
