    hi there, i have a VW Golf Mark 4 1999 model. i recently installed a new cd player and and installed 4 new door speakers by taking the door panels apart, everything works fine however my central locking, side mirror adjuster, and petrol cap button all stoped working. to lock my doors i have to manually push down all the knobs. i took it back to the guy that installed my system and he spent over 2 hours taking eveything apart to see if anything is short circuting, but no luck there.

    when i turn the key to the lock position, the boot locks and i can hear the central locking system working near the doors however it does not take the knobs down only the boot locks.

    the central locking is a key in entry, not remote locking.
    people keep telling me becuase the door pannel was taken apart the key needs reprgramming, but why doesnt the petral cap button or the side mirros work?

    PLEASE, CAN ANYONE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    If this worked before i should say its something that he has done,we have cars at work where things do stop working while there in our place just bad timing but this is too much of a coincidance for me,there has to be a fuse or a wire etc a miss and reprogramming the keys because the door panel was off i have never hearc or done that n we do probably 50-70 cars a week stripping doors etc
    I dont work here for the pay,or the enjoyment,so why do i work here

    first of all id like to thank you for your reply.

    every thing was working fine before all this, however why wouldnt the petrol cap button work, its fuse isnt blown. he did not go near any of the other electric components other than the stereos.
    the problem is that he cannot locate the fault as all the wiring is perfectly done, and all the fuses are not blown. i don't want to take it to VW because they charge £58 per half hour, and you still have to pay even if the problem aint fixed. (daylight robbery this is)

    could it be the key needing reprogramming, them b!£$%$rds at VW charge i think 70 something pounds to reprogram the key nad another 60 pond a half an hour, and if that does not work, you still have to pay. Such a stupid policy!!!!

    hi therer mate jus got ur msg now. i was wondering, if i did disconect the battery for about half an hour or so, would it tamper with any of my other electrics or will it confuse mysensors or anything.

    if everthing is safe in doing that then i might giv that a go and se what happends.

    let me know. thanks
