Yes you could do it without water by using a quick detailer. A detailer is a lubricating solution that enables you to wipe the paint with less risk of scratching.

As to the long term consequence of doing this especially if the does get quite dirty, I'd say you'd be at a higher risk of putting loads of those spiders web type scratches on the paint.

Maybe get it washed as you do at twice the current interval and do a quick detail yourself in between would be the best compromise.
